Summer Chocolate Mimosa

Hey all,
I recently purchased this rare and expensive tree. I was wondering if anyone has any information on it. Basically, should I bring it in for the winter? It's still in the pot. I don't know how hardy it is. I actually saw it at Hicks nursery over the summer. It was beautiful, with burgundy leaves and pink flowers. I just bought it last weekend, totally dormant, for 70% off the price. It was a great bargain. |

| I'd try the tree forum. I almost bought one myself, but it was a teeny bit high. We'll probably get one next year. Do a search for Rainy Side Gardeners |

| Pete- I am also a Long Island gardener. I have a red mimosa growing in a container that I've had for two years. I understand it cannot take frost so when temps are low I move the pot to my garage. My garage is dark but a little warmer than the outdoors. Last week we had a couple of cold nights so I had to move it inside. Since we're now having unusually warm weather, it's predicted to be 69 degrees today, so I have it back outdoors. It looks fully dormant. All the leaves fell off about a month ago. Exactly the same thing happened last winter. It spent a lot of time in the garage with all the snowstorms we had last year. Then in the spring it leafed out again. Good luck with yours. I googled and didn't really find a lot on this plant. |
