Can it be that time already?

| Time to start thinking about taking in tender perennials and setting up their winter quarters.
Any guesses when the first frost will arrive in New York City? |

| Exactly what I want to know. I have 100 Geraniums/ Pelargoniuns to overwinter and last year I lost many because of an unexpected frost. We are building kind of a "greenhouse" in the basement to overwinter them. Though I remember someone saying in the garden web that she overwintered them in the garage, without any soil, and they came back the next year. Is it possible? I've been living in NY for 3 years but never really found out about the approximate dates for the first frost. Any tips? |

| We usually get the first frost here on Long Island around Oct. 15 - 20. I can't believe we're almost there! |

| After today's balmy weather, it looks like nighttime temperatures will start dipping into the thirties this week, with a bit of light frost. Time to take tender plants indoors, it seems. |

| Nor I! I've been in denial for weeks, and the mild fall has cooperated. But these few blasts of Arctic air are Winter clearing his throat .... |
