Chinese Bamboo Plant: Need General Advice

Posted by tombrooklyn z7 Brooklyn, NY (My Page) on

I bought one of those Chinese Bamboo plants that have the stalks close together and growing in what looks like a pot of gravel.

I am seeking general care instructions for this plant.

Cheers,
Tom

it's not actually bamboo.
it's called "lucky bamboo" but it's actually a type of dracaena
here is a page with care instructions http://www.emilycompost.com/lucky_bamboo.htm

I just got a chinese bamboo plant, but the leaves are turning yellow. I have put it a vase with some pebbles and half filled with water and placed it on the dinning table and sometimes in the kitchen, but the leaves are turning yellow, any idea whats happening? What am I doing wrong?

Cheers

In my experience, lucky bamboo does not like too much sunlight - Is yours in direct light? Also, it prefers to sit in the same water for some time. This is counterintuitive for me since "caring" for plants means changing the water, etc., but with lucky bamboo, I just refill the water when I see it's getting low.

Good luck!
