Starting a Fig Tree From a Clipping

Posted by tombrooklyn z7 Brooklyn, NY (My Page) on

I just got a couple of clippings from my neighbor's Fig tree in Brooklyn. He gave me some pretty thick stalks. One is almost 1/2" in dia at the bottom and the other almost 3/8".

I cut off several of the bottom leaves, stuck them in water, and put them in a south facing window.

How does that sound?

Is there anything else I should do or do differently?

Cheers.

I don't think a branch will sprout roots. You might be more successful dipping it in rooting hormone and sticking it in a pot. Anyone else?
