Bringing my plants in

I have about six outdoor containers that I'm slowly bringing indoors. They're all succulents, cacti,Hens and chicks, things like that. Tough plants but I don't think they'll appreciate freezing. Each day, I spray one pot with raid, cover with a paper bag ,then bring indoors the next day. Has everyone else brought in their outdoor/indoor plants?

What a timely thread, thanks :) Yes, I brought in my geraniums, begonias, jasmine, two Chinese grapefruit plants and a pineapple plant (!) Also brought in my neighbor's Christmas cactus. All the plants look so green and lush indoors and the geraniums and begonias are still flowering! I did all that last night ... the weather tonight may drop to 32 degrees towards daybreak. Does anyone have miniature roses planted in the ground? Do you cut them back and mulch? Or just mulch?

I realize this is almost a year later, but I haven't been here in two years. I always bring my geraniums, alstromedia, a few potted impatiens and two years (only one successfully)I brought in my Gerbera daisies. The year I brought in the Gerbera in a pot I was able to keep it, but the two I dug up last year rotted and died for some unknown reason. I always battle the bugs all winter long, especially on the impatiens. The geraniums survive, but last year I was picking off green caterpillars for several weeks at the beginning. Two years ago I successfully brought in a salvia plant, but that too was a battle with the bugs. I never had any luck using sprays that were simply toxic, sticky, and not too successful. So now I just pick off whatever I see, including diseased leaves, and mostly manage to keep them alive until I can put them out again. But I do keep my two high hats on from around 4pm to 8pm to supplement the diminishing light from the windows as the days shorten. But be prepared for LOTS of dead leaves and flowers. I keep the shopvac going constantly in the winter as I don't want to stress out my Hoover with all that organic stuff. Its not for everyone, especially fastidious housekeepers, but I love them and it saves me money not having to buy everything all over again in the spring. Marti
