Wild Petunia

I am Brooklyn born and ever since infancy I have been fascinated by the little magenta petunia that pops up all over Brooklyn every summer. Does anyone know anything about this plant? Has anyone ever thought about making it the official flower of Brooklyn. I would like to hear from anyone who loves this faithful, loyal plant as much as I do!

I don't know anything about it but love it so much that I tried to transplant some that was growing all around a house in my neighborhood that was being demolished. It flowered for much of the summer two years ago and then just disappeared and hasn't returned. I couldn't believe that of all plants, this one didn't come back!

I recently stole a handful in the middle of the night took it home and put it in a jar of water. It is dying. Years ago my backyard was overrun with them but once I pulled them out they never came back. I'm hoping the handful I have in the jar will at least set seed.

Give this a try. Take a good portion of soil from around the Petunia and then plant it at your place. Maybe add a little fertilizer too it. I found that if I find plants in the wild, this helps them get acclimated to my soil.
