Daylillies

My brother gave me some daylilly tubers from his garden a few years ago. I my urban backyard garden, they tend to come up in the spring with nice leaves.. then die out during the heat spells.. and leaf again in late Aug/Sept. Anyone else have similar issues/problems/solutions with daylillies?
Peace

Hi George!

Are your daylillies in pots? Do they get enough water?

The Daylillies I have are in the ground, but without enough water regularly, they will turn yellow and start to die down. They are resillient enough to come back, which sounds like your problem.

If they are in full sun, you can try moving them to a part shade location for the afternoon.

Hope this helps you some-

Thanks Candace. The watering may be the problem. Each time they have died off it has been while I was away and someone else was taking care of the garden. I will have stay in NY for June and July and find out!!
Mine are in the ground, they get only about 4 hours of sun. Is that enough? Is it possible to give them too much water?
Thanks again

RE: Daylillies

New Thoughts.....

I was watching Paul James "the gardening guy" and he did a section on "rust"... I realized that this is something that may be occuring on by Daylillies. It is a fungus that causes the leaves to turn yellow with dark brown "dashes" in the direction of the leaves. This can be caused by overhead watering I expect.

It would be worth looking into.
