Sad, Young Boxwood

Hi everyone,
I've a boxwood which I was given two weeks ago. It's about 2.5' tall, and was looking good when I received it. Very much in a nice rectangle, and very lush. I put it in my yard for two days, next to the A/C exhaust, and it seems to have dired out the leaves badly. Now it's lost color, and I can't seem to get it back to its once strong self!

It's also splitting down the middle.

Any thoughts? It's still wrapped in the canvas base, should I pot it, or have I killed this fine specimen?

It needs to be in the ground or in a pot!
