anyone else suddenly noticing fireflies in Manhattan?

I haven't seen fireflies since I was a very young girl, and suddenly, in the past few weeks, I am seeing them every night in my neighborhood. I wonder why I hadn't seen them for so long, and why they appear to be making a "resurgence"? I wonder if there are certain "conditions" they need, or what might have changed, that would cause me to suddenly see them. I mentioned it to a neighbor the other day, and she said the same thing... that she hadn't seen them in ages, and was suddenly noticing them.

That's funny. I'm on Long Island and this year I've seen many LESS fireflies than usual. I guess they went west!

We've seen them every year here in Brooklyn - it does seem that there are more this year. Started seeing them in late June, but they're thick in the air now. I love to watch them rise up out of the grass at dusk.

I even saw a honey bee this spring... didn't see a one last year... not since the west nile scares spraying..hope they forgo that mass killing this year Gordon
