At least 3 roof gardeners have posted pictures of their beautiful gardens .
I have one observation : I hope you all have elevators in your building's. I have a hard enough time getting stuff up on my deck and that's only 7 feet in the air

RE: Roof Gardening

a car dealership faces the back of my yard. they have a flat roof. it kills me coz the dealership runs the entire block and the rooftop is thus probably 2000 feet by 200 feet. my backyard on the other hand is abput 400 square feet. the number of fruit trees i could grow in large containers on their empty roof. drives me mad.

Haha, I have no elevator in my building. I live on the 4th floor of a walkup. I mostly made exboyfriends lug dirt up the stairs to my floor and I gradually brought the rest up to the roof with a rope and my arms, in half-filled 5gallon buckets. I have to climb up a vertical ladder and out of a hatch on the roof every time I go up there. No easy stairs or door! So, I guess I'm a mix of evil and tough.

Everything besides the dirt isn't too hard to get up there. Now, my watering is automated. I can't put large containers up there though, for fear that they will damage the roof, and because I wouldn't be able to fit them through the hatch.
