Grass in Brooklyn

Posted by bostonbrooklynboy (My Page) on

I was just curious if anyone had any tips for me as I am getting ready to do my backyard over. I live in Williamsburg Brooklyn, the backyard gets pretty good sun and I helped my ex (who lives next door) get a great lawn in her backyard. I'm getting ready to do mine now and I know Im not planting at the proper time. I'm getting ready to till the soil and lay some top soil down. Weeds grow pretty damn fast so I figure I should be ok. I am looking for some grass that will grow pretty quickly and be able to deal with occasionally pretty high traffic. Anyone have any suggestions?

Also does anyone have any thoughts on using Creeping Bentgrass? Cause Im also thinking about canning parties all together and just making one giant putting green

Thanks!

RE: Grass in Brooklyn

Hi. We live in BedStuy and planted fescue in our done over backyard (where my partner diligently screened the dirt and removed bullet casings, auto glass!! and ceramic shards). The fescue we planted year 1 was fantastic but it was overfertilized and burned. Our fault, not the grass'.

The mixed Mixed fescue blend we used later had all these kind of tiny thin blades that burnt up in the sun. Irritating. Now we have patches! Gah!

We got our original bag of fescue @ Home Depot. We are getting that one again.

Good luck.

J
