' What a Scorcher'

Wow the first hot summer Day. Out in the garden today. The heat popped my poppies. Some of the petals fell off. They only started blooming last wed morn. I gave them a good drink. The sun today was relentless. Found snapdragon babies while weeding. Did the biggest mistake tried to transplant in heat of day. Laid them down on pavement. Within minutes they were bye bye. I guess I should have waited till sundown. I always get impatient. Anyway my poppies are out. So is my clematis. My sweet peas finally came up after a second sowing. As predicted the morn glo popped up almost overnite. Anyway keep you posted. Gardening is slave labor. Though If you love it like I do it's worth the effort. Thiswoman at work. Said she neverhas luch with petunias in pots. If you dont water and deadhead forget it. Oh did I mention my hollyhocks? I'm going to try to get some pictures out.

Yes, here in the city I noticed even sun-tolerant plants were wilting a bit in the heat. (As was I!)

Only early June and it's so scorching I can't go out there til after the sun leaves, about 2 PM. And then I spend most of the afternoon watering. Hope all the things I have waiting to be potted up survive this!
The alternate drowning and scorching has cost me 4 torenia already.

Yes, I agree but it is good for my tomatoes and cactus. I too set out some strawberry plants. I hope they make it.
