| Our Manhattan roof garden is infested with grasshoppers. We've tried spraying with Neem, but it's not helped. What would you do for this? |

Hi I'm working on a story for New York Magazine about urban gardening in New York City. I'd love to talk to you about your grasshopper problem. I've got a garden in Brooklyn. Could you give me a call at 718-360-1333. Thanks, Lisa Collins |

Are they small green hoppers? I have a lot this year too. I've just been letting them eat but they get bigger! Let me know if you found anything to control them. Peace George |

They don't like Cilantro, and lots of people do (for guacamole, at least!). Cats will also eat them... Are they little grasshoppers? I had a katydid on my baby magnolia last week. Very interesting creature, especially if there's only one of them. Lots of katydids can eat a lot of your garden. Google search "conrolling grasshoppers" and you'll get a lot of info. Good luck. |

OH>> One of the plagues...I'd spray with Seven...[ Lowes + Home Depot ] perhaps mixed with an Ortho systemic killer.. to give the plants a bad taste to the Grasshoppers later.. We surely get every pest that country gardeners get .. but with fewer birds and such[ Although I did have a redtailed Hawk visit... and there was a wild turkey who spent the day visiting Spring and Lafayette Sts a few weeks ago]... fewer natural preators.. there are fewer members of the food chain to keep them in line..Gordon |
