any others in NYC area w/hydrangeas?

I have a potted hydrangea which I've had for 3 years now in a pot. While the plant looks very healthy and has tons of growth, I still see no signs of flower buds. I seem to recall that last year, I had full mopheads in May. Anybody else in NYC that hasn't seen blooms yet?

Tx!

Well not in NYC, out on the island

I planted 2 years ago, the first year I purchased it, it had lots of blooms...

Last year, not a single bloom, but great big happy looking leaves. I was worried that I chose the wrong location (partial sun, but now I realize this location only get's about 30 min of actual sun per day)

Now looky here within the last few weeks, lots of early blooms:

Looks like she's going to have some nice blooms (but seeing my neighbors are already in bloom, she's a late bloomer I suppose :)

One thing I noticed when I took these pics, there are a bunch of tiny flys (like housefly looking things, there is one on the leaf of the 2nd pic) I wonder what that's all about, I didn't realize there were vegan flys!! Ack!! Yuck!!

Help!! Last year I planted "Endless Summer", a new variety which blooms on both old and new wood. When I left on vacation two weeks ago, the plant was twice the size of its original planting and covered with buds. Now it is in full boom with huge flower heads...but the heads are so large and heavy that they are laying on the ground! The stems look too weak to hold up the flowers. Do hydrangeas need staking? The ones I remember from my childhood seemed to hold themselves up fine. Also, not sure how or when to prune. Right now I have a big blue "puddle" in the corner of the yard.

Staking Hydrangeas?

Barbara,
I am guessing the reason old Hydrangeas never had problems was because they did bloom on old wood? Because 'Endless Summer' and so many of the newer cultivars bloom on new wood, maybe they will need staking or hooping?
Beautiful bloomer though :-)

Well, I cut off a bunch of the heaviest flower heads and put the best ones in a vase on my diningroom table (they look wonderful!) and then staked and tied up the rest. At least now it looks like a "bush" again. It will be interesting to see what it does next year. As pretty as it is, I really didn't need something that was going to cause even more work in the garden.
