Plant for Eastern Facing Window Sill in NYC

Posted by nyccoconut 6 (My Page) on

Hello!

I would like to plant something on my windowsill. I am looking for a plant that:

• Can stand up to direct Eastern exposure (no buildings blocking the morning sun)
• Is Modern/architectural
• With Year-round heartiness and interest on an NYC windowsill

Would anyone have any suggestions?

I am especially interested in Sedums or Grasses (the grass dying back in the Winter is okay).

Thank you!
Jeff

It sounds like you are looking for plants for window boxes not window sills .If its sill see if you can find "Well-clad Window Sills "By Tovah Martin that book may help.

Japanese bloodgrass (imperata cylindrica) might be a good choice for you, depending on what your planters look like. I planted some I got from Dove Creek Nurseries in a "faux cement " planter on my roof, and am quite thrilled with it. The plants were a little small, however, so for this season I interplanted them with some salvia "Lady in Red". I can send you a picture if you like.

Best,

Gaby
