I know the place you are talking about and where it is. You can try looking in Fine Gardening magazine for the address or any of the watergardening magazines.

Scherers & Sons Water Gardens 104 Waterside Rd. Northport NY If you are headed east on Fort Salonga Road..(I believe it is 25a) you will turn north (right) on Waterside...it is on the corner by the Cow Harbor Inn..(I think that is the name of it)...it is about 3/4 of a mile down on your right...watch closely it is easy to miss the turn into the nursery...We buy our tropical water lilies there every year..they are great people to deal with!! |

Thank you so much! I guess it helps if you know how to spell their name correctly :-)

Actually, if you're heading east on 25A, you'll make a LEFT turn to go north. I think the Cow Harbor Inn is closed now so the sign may be down. Across the street is Nocellos. I'm in Northport & go to Scherers all the time if you need more info... ~Nancy |

I understand that they also put out a catalog, and I'll try to get on their mailing list. Thanks again :-)

I used to go there years ago when I lived in my other house and had a pond in my backyard. Great place! They have two large greenhouses in the back full of Waterlillies that people can buy for their ponds.

Well, I am putting in a stocktank as a pond this spring so I will be driving out there to Scherers to get my water plants and fish very soon. This is the best place on Long Island for buying Water Lillies if anyone is interested. They have a big greenhouse just with water lillies alone that they have started and you can buy and bring home.

About a half hour from Scherer's ia another great place for pond goodies. SuburbanWatergardens 211 Burrs Lane Dix Hill Definately worth a look see if you are thinking of getting into ponding. Before Roslyn Nursery closed down, they shared their parking lot with Suburban. Many bog and marginal plants that are used for ponds can be purchased from your regular nurseries. For some reason the same plant selling in the same nursery will be marked more expensive when it sits with the aquatic plants. Even watercress from the supermarket will root easily to become a pretty and edible pond plant.

I went to Scherers today and bought fish for my newly set up Stocktank pond. Here is address and phone # in case anyone missed it- S. Scherer & Sons, Inc. 104 Waterside Road Northport, NY 11768 (631) 261-7432 I just drive east on Route 25A and then (in Northport) turn left into Waterside. Its on the right just a small ways down. Its a very pleasant and scenic drive plus there are two great nurseries along the way that I always stop at so its always an enjoyable outing. I bought myself some Koi, Sarassa Comets and some Shubunkins which are looking good in my stocktank pond.

Yes, I know about Suburban but you can't beat the fish selection at Scherers. I went back this past wednesday and bought afew more fish. I took forever to pick out my few fish. Must have driven the guy crazy.
