| I just planted @ in 25 gallon containers, Will that be big enough for them ? Can I keep them in an unheated garage in the winter? It gets a lot colder than the recommended 20 for winter storage. |

| The 25-gallon container may not be large enough. I have a fig tree, grown from a cutting with roots from a neighbor's tree. It's the dark, Turkish variety. The tree is about five years old and began producing in year three. The roots are way beyond a 25-gallon container size. I do not cover the tree; instead I maintain about 12-inches of mulch around the base for an 18-inch diameter. Park Seed MAY have a drawf variety that will grown is a large container. Good luck! |

| That garage is way too cold to overwinter figs that are in a container. Containers are MUCH colder than the ground. The figs would have a much better chance planted in the ground and mulched and burlapped (probably wouldn't even need the burlap in the proper location (southside of house). |

The figs are in tubs for a reason .I didn't have a sunny warm ,protected area that is deer free .They are presently on the deck up against the house. The problem is going to be ,what to do with them when the weather gets cold. The garage goes below freezing and the basement is about 55-60 in the winter |

| I actually over-wintered figs in 5 gallon containers in an uninsulated RubberMaid outdoor shed this past winter (because I had 'potted up' a bunch of cuttings that had grown to about 3 feet and, once the weather suddenly got cold, I had nowhere else to put them). I took them out in the Spring and all 'made it' ..... In fact, there are figs on them now. I did wrap a few sheets of paper around them before I 'stored' them. |

| I've had a fig tree in a contianer for about seven years now. Even though I live in z7, I chose to leave it in a container because it was doing so good & I didn't want to lose it. Last year I took it out of the container at the beginning of the season & pruned the roots to keep the root size adequate for the container. I'd put it in the ground if I had a suitable site but as yet continue it in the container. I keep it on a garbage lid in my walk out basement & bring it outside for rain when it's sunny & above fifty degrees. I don't water it frequently during the winter but do try to use collected rain water when I do water it or put it outside when it rains. By putting it outside on sunny days after the first of the year, I think it hastens the time that it starts to put out new growth. I noticed yesterday that there were a few green spots on it where leaves will be coming out. |

I put them(3) in my unheated garage for the winter. Wrapped the pots with some insulation and covered them with a plastic tarp I put them out on the deck today. They all look ready for a productive season to me .Only time will tell |
