| 3 days prior its barely in bloom - guess it warmed up some .. the 'broom' behind the basket hanging on the 'fence' to keep the kids from trampling the emerging perennials. this corner is ever 'evolving' I need to add some more perennials - i think.

Hey terri- hows it going... I like your garden area in the yard. How deep is it? (front to back) I am developing my garden beds and the depth ranges from 4' to 15'. The picture of the pink flowering shrub looks like a Wine and Roses Wegelia to me. Does it have purple leaves? I dont think mine has a smell, I will have to go out and give it a whiff. --Candace

Hey Candace. cant wait to see a pic of your gardens. The depth is 15' and width is 25'x25' sorry.. thats not it. its something broom a fella from the nursery told me last year when I bought it but I forgot the tag is around the house somewhere :) I actually have the wine and roses weg. at the front by the mail box. got it on one of my many trips to Cheap Sams this year. A pic is in my thread about changes in the month. The wegelia is actually in bloom now - Ill take a pic this week. you know Candace I went up to Roslyn - hated it! i didnt like the set up. and since I have short term memory loss good thing I brought my latin name booky.. though I did end up buying a continus from them for $37 that was $80 at Sam's.....
Here is a link that might be useful: wegelia

Hi Terri, Hi Candace Could it be a pink version of a Scotch Broom? It looks very happy in your lovely garden!! Hopefully the little ones will learn to appreciate it sooner rather than later!! I give you so much credit, my boys are grown but your garden is way better than mine!! ;) Sylvia

Funny thing- when I look at the picture at another compter- I can plainly see that it is not a wegelia. Go Figure. I have seen that Scotch Broom all over the place. Must be the "new" thing. 25'X15' is a great size, plenty of room to do things. Terri, my garden is not very developed. It is currently a holding pen for the miscellaneous things that I have bought. We cut the back 40' of the bed last fall and have been pushing to get it prepared. I will have to plant is soon, I have many winter sown vegies that need a home. Hopefully we will be able to get a load of soil in two weeks, after our roof is done. Yeah- Roslyn didnt really impress me either- I was looking up the Peconic Herb place and it looks promising. They say that they have 4.5" pot of the Echniacea (sp?) in yellow and orange- reasonable price for the size. What is a Continus? --Candace

Wishing you good luck on finding the echinacea in yellor or orange. I the past 3 weeks I have been to at least 10 nurseries looking for some of it. Did find "Ruby Star" here locally but was not cheap. Large pot (gallon) was $14.99.

Hey candace, take your time, its gona be great. will have you offer us a tour when you put it in :) hmm.. I dont know if its new I've always loved them, the first time I got it was in 2000 when we moved from brooklyn to bayshore. now I had to have one again :) the old one was too large for me to take :) BTW last year I bought yellow echincea at Stables on Rte 231. out of the way, you want to hear something funny. at the old house I had a purple leaf sandcherry that for the life of me was not growing an inch in the five years we lived there. one day while redoing the berm I dug up the tree - do you know it was PLANTED IN THE BLACK NURSERY POT!! I could not believe it. i have pics somewhere (before digital camera) ill have to go look for it and scan. oh well... just thought id share that..... Cotinus coggygria 'Royal Purple' smoketree out back its started to 'flower' now.
a pic of how it will/should look
