care of sago palms

I had resently aquired 3 sago palms that were brought up from southern Florida, I live in New York State. I have read that they are slow growers, only putting out 1 to 2 fronds (leaves) a year. When I got these, one of the plants were already growing 3 fronds. A week later 2 more fronds appeared, is this normal? Also, how should I be caring for them? The one that is growing all of these fronds is in a south window, the other 2 are just off to the side of the south window.
Any help would be great.

| Cyads grow in annual spurts of very rapid growth. I have had mine for over twenty-five years now. The really big ones overwinter in an unheated, attached garage. I don;t know what species you have. Mine are the Cycas revoluta and being from southermost Japanese islands, they like it on the cool side in winter. Lay off the water in the winter but don't let them dry out too much. Try to keep cool in your house. I put mine outside in March here in NJ. They are very robust plants. Even if they loose all their leaves, don't assume they're dead. Try to put outside in the growing season. Water daily in summer if you put them out and weather is warm. I only feed them from April to August. Put in part sun at first then they can tolerate more intense light. I bring mine into garage again in December. The new crown grows once a year, in May to June, depending. When it does grow, it grows fast. New leaves are tender and delicate, don't damage at this point. Mine are too big and spiny for the house now. They are great plants and will outlive us all. |

| Hello...purchased one last spring from waldlbaums...put it out all summer near hubbie's koi pond where it received filtered light from large overhead trees and bushes...water from a overhead sprinkler every few days or rain water...grew 6 to 8 extra leaves... inside now in a large window with other plants and a 12 hour grow light north side...semms happy... and the best part is it keeps my cats out of window where they try to eat other plants because of it's spiney leaves.
