| Attached is a link from the NYC Dept of Park's webpage. They refer to the "improvement" of Highland Park (and the Ridgewood Reservoir) as mentioned in the NYT article, which will include ballparks, etc. Notice they make absolutely no mention of all the wildlife that live there, or the fact that 'The Parks Department’s own scientific consultants have warned against disturbing the reservoir, an area they call "highly significant for the biodiversity of New York City and the region." Nor do they mention that "According to the National Audubon Society, 137 species of birds use the reservoir, including eight rare species." So naturally, anybody reading this would think this sounds like a wonderful plan to "improve" the park! Very deceptive!!! http://www.nycgovparks.org/sub_about/parks_divisions/capital/parks/highland_park.html Here's a link to send a message to the Park's Commissioner, who (according to the NYT article) said "said the city needs the athletic fields to combat childhood obesity". (What a simplistic way of attacking the problem of childhood obesity and deciding that a nature reserve should be razed, huh? :-) http://nyc.gov/html/mail/html/maildpr.html Here are links for writing to other people that are also supporting the destruction of Ridgewood Reservoir in order to put in athletic fields and facilities....
