I've had temps at 30 degrees for the past three nights. How is everyone doing out there? I forgot to bring in some teeny weeny seedlings one night, but they seem okay.

My impatients have been planted for weeks but are just straggling along. It really needs to warm up some since I want to plant my tomatoes. Need to wear a sweatshirt or sweater inside this past week and its May. Yikes!!!!

I forgot and left some seedlings out, too, but they were Winter Sown, so they made it ok. Also forgot the coleus cuttings I overwintered and was hardening off; they got a bit wilty, but revived. Getting pretty tired of the take it out, bring it in routine. Supposed to warm up Monday, and I hope it keeps going!

All the Greenmarket basil I planted out has keeled over, and the Flower District coleus are looking wilty. I do wish growers would harden their plants off a bit; it seems like they must be moving them from a hot greenhouse straight out for sale. Personally, I like the cool weather — though I agree it isn't too tomato-friendly!

I've worked in nursery/garden centers and at this time of year, we would still be moving the tenders in and out at night or covering them with remay. I would tell the customers just that so that they would know they had to be careful at night.

I asked, at the Greenmarket, if things had been in the greenhouse at night. Explained that I too had a greenhouse, and just wanted to know if I needed to keep them in at night; hoped that way they would be honest with me. Anyway, I am done with that routine. The stuff stays out now, and either makes it or not.

Here we are May 12 ... got up early and out gardening at 6:00 AM cloudy but warm ... now 3 hours later it is still cloudy but COLD !!! When is it going to warm up? My plants seem to be alright and am going to replant my Canna Lillies from their winter tubs. Have my tomatoes, cukes and eggplant in already but I am suffering ... the old bones and the Arthritus. Maybe next week we will see 70 degrees , here's hoping!

And here it is! Something's telling me it will be a bit more reliably warm from now on.
