squirrel and cat problem

| I read somewhere that there was a smelly yet lovely bulb that planted would sufficiently stink up your garden with a smell that squirrels abhor. Sadly I can not find my notes with the name of the bulb that I so desperately need here in my city plot. Does this ring a bell to anyone?
Also, any suggestions on how to keep the dozens of neighborhood cats from using my garden as a litter box?
Many thanks,

| This isn't a bulb, but could it be Coleus canina (scaredy cat plant)??? I also read that putting orange peel around the bed works too, I haven't tried it myself. You have to replace the peels every couple of weeks, because once they dry out the effect wears off. |

| None of those work. On a hot day, the oils that give them the aromas just disappear too fast. Blood meal usually scares squirrels for a while, but it works into the soil really fast too. Bobcat urine is the best to chase away cats. It's available in some states but I never checked in NY, although now that I have a cat problem, I'm going to. The squirrels are actually tearing through my plastic garbage cans now. They sit on top and gnaw until they make a hole in the lid and then they just rip it until it's big enough for them to fit through. I think a small dog is the best. |
