seeking free rocks and/or tree stump

I'm looking for free rocks and/or tree stump in the NYC area. I want to place them in the front garden of a brownstone to create atmosphere and a visual focus point. Ideally several rocks ranging from 6" diameter to 18" diameter that I could mound together and plant among for an "alpine" look. Or one tree stump about 18" diameter that I could use as a pedestal for a "romantic" broken container or whimsical statuette. I'll them pick up from you. Thanks!

check on Craigslist in Free, Material or FArm/ Garden. I have seen a few people giving away some rocks. They might be on Long Island though.

nicky-

i live in bklyn (11210)- I have a piece of tree stump you could have. its probably about 18inches in diameter and maybe 10 inches in depth. The interior 6 inches of the stump is rotten. If you want it, its yours. I also have a massive tree stump that is about 4ft tall and about 30 inches in diameter, still in the ground. If you have a power tool capable of cutting through such a stump, you can take as much of it as you want.

re the rocks, I drove about 45 minutes north of manhattan and was able to collect as many as I wanted from the woods adjutting the highway.

if you have any qs, feel free to email me at ggrunsfeld@yahoo.com

Freecycle is also a good place to look.

If you're still looking, I was wandering around my neighborhood last night and saw that there was a tree cut down on either E. 22nd or E. 23rd street just off of Ave L in Midwood. There are lots pieces, various sizes.
