hello-

I'll be adding a couple of trees to my brooklyn garden this spring and was wondering if anyone had recommendations for nurseries with a great selection of trees, especially natives.... for example, I'll be looking for a single stemmed serviceberry/shadberry.

up to an hour away is fine, in any direction (LI, NJ, north of the city)

thanks!

Try Cipriano Nursery, 1660 Front Street, East Meadow
The brother is a Landscape Archt and they carry a good variety and large sizes- expensive on trees because of size.

Also Roslyn Nursery, Burrs Lane, Huntington Station- they just south of the LIE- See web site- trees are 1'-5' and will ship off season (bare root)

Dont know about natives, but both have a good selection. Recommend you call first just so you dont waste the drive.

Update for you mark---

I was out to Rosyln nursery this weekend. Yeah... in the rain. And I cant say that I was impressed with what they had. All the plants were labeled in Latin, I guess they are aiming for an educated croud, not a problem there. But I was disappointed in the size and development of the trees. They did have many varieties, but generally the size/development is why I dont order through catalogues. They are good for in-fill, but just small.

Just wanted to give you a heads up.

Any nursery worth is weight, will place a special order for you. Try placing this thread on the Trees forum.
