Planting veggies yet?

| I'm new here. I've been looking for a forum that focuses on growing vegetables (and other plants/flowers) on LI. We've picked up a ton of broccoli (which I found at home depot). Usually hard to find, so I'm excited. We've had great succes the last couple of years.
We got some spinich and a couple of pepper plants. Couldn't find any squash yet. I'll have to try Hicks and some other privately owned places. Home Depot just had a million tomatoes, brocolli, some herbs and that was about it.
Need a tip on Squash. Our roots always seem to die right where they come out of the ground before they should (halfway though summer usually. I think it's some sort of parsite or insect, but my wife refuses to spray anything on our plants. Should I wrap them in something?
Sorry for the ramble, I'm just getting excited witht he weather getting nice...... |

Hi, I have a small patio garden and can only grow tomatoes. I have volunteer seedlings from old fruit back in the fall. They look like healthy plants... Will pot them up and get them going. Good luck on the squash... have you tried the forum for vegetables on here? Happy Gardening George |

| I was at Home Depot today too and bought 20 tomato plants there of various kinds. The prices were good and the plants were nice and healthy. I also bought a flat of red petunias, two flates of marigolds and a gorgeous Fushia hanging basket. Not going to plant the tomatoes yet but its good to have them. Then I went to Hicks and I think the tomato selection was better last year. Only bought 4 tomatoes there, all heirlooms that I picked because the plants were really big. Got a flat of impatients. I had already bought three flats of impatients at Martin Veitte over the weekend and planted them all already. Plus I could not resist buying two more hanging baskets at Hicks, one of Million Bells and one of a double flowering impatient. |

| Hmm, I've already planted my tomatoes I started from seedling. I have Black Krim, Bloody Butcher, and Hillbilly. I hope it's not too early, but they're smallish plants and under clotches. It's been fairly warm of late. |
