Wow, you have SO many fruit trees. Have any of them ever had fruit? Have the tropical ones? How do they survive inside all winter?

RE: more pics- lychees, mangoes, jaboticaba, apple blossom etc

YIPLA- most of my fruit trees have been in the ground for 1-4 years- so between immaturity, squirrels and various insects and fungacides, i have been left with very skimpy crops- as in 0-10 fruits per tree- but l live in hope.

as for the tropical fruit trees- i have only had them for a year- i put them in my basement for the winter and installed a grow light. next winter, i will probably put them in my garage under a grow light with a heater

WOW lychee.... it would be indeed be awesome to not hav to settle for imported lychees bought on canal st one day!

ur front yard looks superb and the lychees so lush, could make good foliage houseplants too?!

i'm loving the mulch, what kind is that? i barely fathom how many bags i need from home depot to mulch a 50X100 lot!

 o
RE: more pics- lychees, mangoes, jaboticaba, apple blossom etc

the mulch is great- its Scotts mulch- claims on the bag it will not lose its color. we'll see.

im jealous of your 50x100 lot. mine is only 25x 100.
i used about 35 bags of mulch!- you may want to have a landscaper deliver a truckload full of it.
thanks for the compliments on the front yard.

im still playing with different plants- but 3 of the plants i have their are real winners-

the flowering almond- thats the one seen in flower in the pics- the spirea- it changes color about 6 times a season- its amazing- probably my fave plant- and the flowering cherry- stunning blossoms and really pretty foliage.

the lychees cannot be brought indoors unless you have a really pwerful grow light or you can put it right next to a large window that receives alot of sunlight.

where do you live exotic-

for now- i go to canal street about 5 times a week during lychee season and spent about $20 at a time on lychees- im definitly addicted.

in fact a few of us from the tropical fruit forum r planning a trip to miami in june specifically to stuff our faces with lychees

hey lychee!

wow the spirea sounds awesome!

holliswood, queens. r u in brooklyn?

an older, humble/starter cape with not enuf windows at all, the house can badly use a total renovation but i don't have the dinero nor the need for regalness right now. to top it off the previous owner had nothing but GRASS and weeds growing all over, not a single tree on the whole property. last yr i planted blue atlas cedar, var. leyland, carolina/arizona cypress, arborvitae, juniper, jew, var. eunymous, roses all around but if only they would hurry up and grow tall! so its taking ages to get rids of weeds that keep coming up, the place looks a hot mess still =( i put down 30 bags pine mulch last fall becuz the color matches the brick walls i put up, but that type sucks as it dries out to a pale white color and blows around all over the place, will def never use pine mulch again! ur mulch looks heaps better, yeah will look for a landscaper once i get around to pulling out more of the perpetually sprouting weeds that used to be the previous owner's entire "lawn".

the only grace to the yard is from the container bananas, monstera, etc i just put out and it gets so cold at night and so sunny during the day, their foliage is looking a real wreck.... and i've never seen new york so perpetually windy since fall, is this el ninyo la ninya pinta santa maria weather or what?!?!

pics r from december, not now. will probably have to take update pics soon, yard IS looking a better than these pics, but not much!!! still a looooong way to go to even be a somewhat presentable garden =L

wow beutiful home exotic and beautiful front yard-
i am in brooklyn- feel free to come visit my fruit farm anytime exotic (or anyone for that matter) I have about 50 different fruit growing.

exotic- very impressed with the citrus tree- what type is it? how long have you had it, where did you buy it and what did you did with it during the winter

 o
RE: more pics- lychees, mangoes, jaboticaba, apple blossom etc

why thanks, how sweet of u!

i feel like my new garden is still sulking, with this cold weather and all.

calomondin orange, got it at home depot for $40 2 yrs ago. by late summer it has all that fruit then i bring it indoors before late fall/early winter frost, i still had it in that 1 gal pot cuz when i went to pot it up it wasn't even rootbound, seems very slowgrowing. i just gave it to my mom cuz she wanted one but i couldnt find them at home depot again ever again. now i just have a variegated 'pink lemonade" lemon seedling that's barely surviving this cold weather we still have in nyc, and i put my tropicals out since apr 15ish.

esp the nights are frigid... brrrrrrhhhhh! whenever is it going to finally warm up and stay that way?!?
