| No!! It's still way too early. If you put seedlings in the ground now, they'll be pretty stunted. The ground isn't warmed up enough. My rule of thumb has always been to plant on Mother's Day. If you plant earlier and cover or shelter your plants, you'll be okay. But if you don't want to go through that fuss, wait until Mother's day. For seeds, many can be started indoors, and then seedlings hardened off and then planted outside. Different plants need to be started from seed at different times. Some plants will do better if you plant seeds directly in the ground rather than transplant. Unless you're thinking cold crops (like kale or peas) don't start putting veggies in the ground yet. Tomatos, peppers and eggplant like to have warm feet!! (meaning warm soil) Bean seeds and squash seeds will rot if you plant too early (soil too wet from spring) and they need warmer temps to germinate as well. Read your seed packet backs. They do have good info. |
