Small trees mostly in the shade

I am a complete novice when it comes to gardening and I was hoping that some of the more seasoned gardeners on this forum could give me some advice please.

I have a small front garden that is mostly in the shade but gets partial sun. I would like to plant a tree that grows no higher than 6’ and requires little or no maintenance. I am located in Zone 6. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm, off the top of my head, you could try sarcoccoca, aronia, dwarf fothergilla, corylopsis, itea virginica, or hydrangea quercifolia.

A quick trip to the local bookstore should get you a reference on shrubs with more suggestions, or you can try googling "top shrubs for shade."

Hope this helps!

Jim
