dwarf mondo grass?

I have a lightly shaded area around our little fountain and am looking for an attractive ground cover. I saw a wonderful patch of drawf mondo grass at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and would like to try it here in my coastal connecticut garden -- zone 6b. Sources seem to vary in their zone recomendations. Has anyone had experience with this? My searches bring up lots use in more southern areas -- Georgia, Fla, Virginia etc.

here in holliswood (queens) nyc it has been hardy for me, the only thing is its extremely slow-growing, for me! i wanted it to spread but its not doing so, so the 1 gallon clump of VARIEGATED LIRIOPE is just staying the same little dwarf, barely 6" high and 6" wide, clump of grass so far=L on a positive note, it stayed evergreen as did variegated acorus did for me. which is always a plus with ornamental grasses believe i'm in z6b, too

thanks for your input. I'd already decided it's too risky and now with your comment that it hasn't spread I feel no regrets. I've gone for a new drawf ajuga called chocolate chip that looks charming and much more reliable. I have a rather large area to cover. Kitty
