hey kids :)
wow, i've been out of touch for awhile, but i hope you won't hold that aginst me :) happy spring!
so i think i may have to start over on th lawn area of my backyard (it is coming up nothing but moss and annual bluegrass this year, the soil is really quite dense and top dressing over the years has not helped much). however i learned back in '98 that it is darned difficult to rent a rototiller in brooklyn. does anyone know if a cheap rental place has turned up since or does anyone have a little rototiller i can borrow? i'm expecting i'll have to tear up the roughly 100-200 sq foot area and start over, wouldn't take long, but would need to rent/borrow the equipment for a day or two (could most likely borrow a car for transport). anyone??
thanks!

| Hey, I've been out of touch for a while too! I rototilled my back yard a few years ago; rented a new, very small rototiller from a place on Coney Island Ave. I'm not sure exactly which place it was. I *think* it was Miller's, at 485 Coney Island Ave, but it might have possibly been B&B at 620 Coney Island Ave. It wasn't cheap, but it was a lot cheaper than buying one. We also plowed all kinds of amendments into the soil as we tilled, so it worked out very well. And our soil was far too hard and crusty to amend by hand. |

i had a bit of a bad experience renting from a place out on coney island ave last time (many years back). anyone know of anything closer? esp.since i am car-less..... wondering also if it is possible to do by hand. any real reason to rototill if you are willing to put in some time and sweat semi-double-digging? i don't want to create a clay bathtub, but i can't imagine a tiller will get down more than a foot or two either. so want to get this done quickly |
