Roses in March Program at New York Botanical Gardens

Roses don’t grow on the streets of New York City, but on Thursday, March 15th, New York metro area gardeners can come and smell 50 blossoming roses brought from South Carolina on exhibition at New York’s great botanical gardens and also tour the New York Orchid Show, enjoy a reception in the Rotunda of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, mix with rose celebrities Wilhelm Kordes III, Clair Martin, Stephen Scanniello, Marilyn Wellan -- and more --

Schedule for -- AN AFTERNOON AND EVENING WITH ROSES at the Great Rosarian of the World East Program, Thursday, March 15th --

1:30 pm
New York Botanical Garden: Discussion about roses of the future with Marilyn Wellan, immediate past president of the American Rose Society, Clair Martin, curator of roses of the Huntington Botanical Gardens, author Stephen Scanniello, and others, followed by

2:30/3 pm
NYGB: Tour of the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden under renovation and of the New York Orchid Show

5 pm Take a special bus (see registration below), or go on your own, to Brooklyn for

6 pm
Brooklyn Botanic Garden: Lecture by Great Rosarian of the World honoree Wilhelm Kordes III of Europe’s largest rose company

7:30 pm Wine & Cheese Reception in the Rotunda Room of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Registration information:

1. Call the Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s event line to register – 718-623-7230. Cost: $35 (after you register, contact pshanley@aol.com to be included at the NYBG events without additional charge)

2. Contact pshanley@aol.com also if you want a seat on the bus. Cost is $35 for the round-trip. The bus will pick you up in Manhattan to go to NYBG, then to BBG, and back to Manhattan. There is a second bus from Hicksville for Long Islanders. Pat Shanley will have the bus schedules.
