Selden, Long Island (Suffolk County)?

Hi All!

I am looking for any gardeners that live near me! I am a 31 yr old stay-at-home mom of a 2 1/2 year old girl. I'm in a few mom's clubs, but nobody likes to garden. Huh? Can you believe that?! Insanity! Haha... I'm an amateur but passionate gardener. I've got seeds starting under lights in the basement and since I planted them have had dreams every night about seeds and seedlings, potatoes coming up out of the ground, dew on leaves. I LOVE the anticipation so much I can think of little else!

I hope everyone is well and excited, too!

Mel

Go to the plant exchanges here on garden web. Many generous people offer plants for the cost of postage. Lynne

Thank you, fable, for the advice. Actually, I'm pretty good for plants this year. I have several plants I am going to divide and spread around and I'm starting a couple hundred seedlings in my basement right now! Oh, I know I'm going to kick myself when it comes time to plant every one. Mostly, I'm looking for local gardening buddies. I have lived on Long Island for only a year and have met lots of moms with whom I do playdates and nights out - it's great. But I would really love to meet some people who enjoy gardening!

I have been here, in Smithtown, for 28 years, 10 years in Farmingdale. I grew up and lived in East Meadow, so much of my life has been on LI. I, therefore, am a bit older than you. If you like daylilies I have over 450 of them along with many hosta and other perennials and shrubs. If you would like to visit over the summer I would be very happy to show you around. Have you thought of joining some Gardening Clubs in the area? Check into the Hofstra Show in a few weeks. It is close by and is a nice show. Lynne

Patchogue has a garden club. We meet one night a month and have guest speakers. It is a very friendly group and all are welcome to sit in on a meeting and/or join. During the summer the meetings are usually in someones garden, which is really nice. We have members traveling from Stony Brook, and Ronkonkoma, so Selden doesn't seem that far. I believe there is a club in Northport if you want to stay up on the North Shore. Send me an e mail if you would like more info on our meeting. Susan

get thee and thy daughter to the county farm in Yaphank! They usually have a spring celebration including sheep shearing! From there you will be able to get lots of info on gardening happenings. good luck!
