Considering we never really got a winter until today .I'm afraid that we may get some cold weather right into spring . I have plenty of resources available to me .There are some really beautiful nurseries near me . My son recently purchased a dump truck for his business so now I can go to the local recycling center and get all the mulch and compost I want I'm glad that the reporter is coming to see you . Let me know when the piece may appear Where do you get your trees .I have tried a variety of places but I find my self going back to Henry Leuthardt ,the espalier guy in Moriches. He sells whips as well . |

i checked out Henry Leuthardt's website- they have a decent selection of trees and dont just sell the typical golden delicious and jonagold stuff that the brooklyn nurseries do. the NY times guy came on sunday- we spent about 2 hours chatting - not sure when the article is coming out- will follow up. |

| nice pics, and a great article on urban fruit growing! Have you gotten a crop from your lychees yet? I would love to grow these, if I had space among all the other plants . . . am ordering a peach from Leuthardt's for a friend's backyard today; I met him at the BBG's Plant-O-Rama, very nice guy. FYI, there are a couple of nurseries in Red Hook that all tend to stock beyond what the box stores carry; Chelsea is the most mainstream, but not cheap, Gowanus has really nice, unusual selections, and Liberty Sunset has herbs, veggies and tropicals (I worked briefly at LS last year). Looking forward to spring, when plants start going back outside to the balcony and the family can actually walk around the apartment without a machete! ;>) Jim |
