Where to Buy Perlite?

| Does anyone have a cheap source for horticultural perlite? I need about 12 cubic feet for my rooftop vegetable garden, and the best price I can find here in NYC is about $110. I can find mail order perlite for much cheaper (about $36), but the shipping gets the price back up to $110 or more. Any leads would be much appreciated. Thanks! |

Horace Harding in Queens... they have the larger sized pellets of Perlite..if you can get a car out to LI there's griffin greenhouse supply... they are a national greenhouse supply chain... offices everywhere..

| Thanks for the leads. The hydroponic stores you suggested are all on the expensive side. Griffins seems promising, and I'm waiting on a price quote from them. We'll see how the delivery cost shakes out. Garden is located in Hell's Kitchen (hence the hk in my handle). |

Yes, Gordon is the pro at roof gardens! I saw his last year when we did the Spring plant exchange near Caroll Gardens and it is amazing.
Inexpensive Perlite? I am a notorious Loews snooper. The one in Brooklyn sometimes has damaged bags at half price.
I am always snarfing up half price soil and amendments.

| Try Chelsea Garden Center, or Saifee Hardware. A nursery like Gowanus might be willing to buy in bulk for you. |
